How to Create a WordPress Multisite Network
1. Select a domain structure.
In WordPress multisite networks, sites are installed either in subdomains or subdirectories. If you select subdomains, you should configure wildcard subdomains on your server. If you pick subdirectories, then all you have to do is activate pretty permalinks on your root site.
2. Activate WordPress multisite network feature.
The multisite network features comes with every WordPress installation. Therefore, you only have to install WordPress as it is. This feature can also be enabled on an existing WordPress site.
3. Put up the network.
As soon as the multisite network feature has been enabled on your WordPress site, you can proceed to setting up your network. Before that though, remember to deactivate all your site’s plugins.
4. Configure the settings on your network.
Once you have set up the multisite network, you have to configure the network settings (find the button on the admin sidebar).
5. Open your network for registrations.
Perhaps the most important step in your network setup is Registration Settings. Registrations, both user and site, are disabled by default. You decide whether not to open your site for site registrations, let present users add new sites, or accept both site and user registrations.
6. Upload your multisite network settings.
You need to watch the usage of the server resources. The Upload Settings section is where you can set limits on how much space uploads may consume for a site.
This is 100MB by default, or around 100 image uploads. You can increase or decrease this, depending on the space available on your disk.
7. Add new sites, themes and plugins.
By default, theme and plugin installations by individual site administrators are not permitted. Only the network admin can do that.
